Carolyn Pokorny is a trial and appellate lawyer with substantial experience before judges and juries. Her primary areas of practice include white collar criminal defense, securities and enforcement matters, internal investigations and complex commercial litigation.
Ms. Pokorny previously served as the Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, where she was responsible for overseeing the work of over one hundred Assistant U.S. Attorneys in areas ranging from securities, bank, wire and health care fraud to public corruption and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). During her fourteen-year career at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ms. Pokorny also held the positions of Chief, General Crimes; Senior Litigation Counsel, Public Integrity; Chief, Narcotics and the International Narcotics Strike Force; and Deputy Chief, Narcotics. Ms. Pokorny has tried numerous cases to verdict, securing the convictions of stock brokers colluding to manipulate the pricing of initial public offerings in a multinational money laundering scheme; a former New York state senator for defrauding a federally-funded health care center; and numerous other defendants charged with securities fraud, bank fraud, tax offenses, money laundering, violations of the Bank Secrecy Act and other federal criminal offenses.
In 2011, Ms. Pokorny received the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service. In 2013, she was named Federal Prosecutor of the Year by the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation. Since 2002, she has served as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Clinical Law at Brooklyn Law School. Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ms. Pokorny served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Appeals Bureau of the Bronx District Attorney’s Office and as a law clerk to the Hon. Arthur D. Spatt of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. She graduated from Brooklyn Law School (Associate Managing Editor, Law Review) and New York University (cum laude).
